VHS Consulted on the repair of this historic building. The seaside hotel suffered extensive damage due to a fire. The historic nature of the building and the issues surrounding code upgrades presented unique problems in ascertaining how to reconstruct the structure.

During the construction of an adjacent building, the project included seismic upgrading of an unreinforced brick masonry building. During the seismic reinforcing a basement wall collapsed. VHS consulted with the insurance adjusters on issues concerning the rebuilding of this wall and the extent to which the work performed was already covered by the existing contract as opposed to additional work caused by the event.

Harvard Way Apartments

VHS investigated this burned out apartment building and worked with the building department to develop a scope of repair. Later VHS estimated the costs and set up a contract for the work to be performed.

Shelter Bay Condominiums Rehabilitation, Mill Valley, California.

VHS provided construction drawings and specifications for the $3.4 million repair of extensive water and dry rot damage at this deluxe 107 unit waterfront condominium complex.

Bart / SFIA Extension San Francisco, California.

Working for BATC (Bay Area Transit Consultants, a group including Bechtel and Parsons Brinkerhoff), VHS was charged with providing an estimate intended to simulate a contractor's bid of the "cut and cover" tunnel.

Foothills Transportation Corridor, Orange County, California.

VHS provided an independent estimate of construction and engineering costs for proposed design-build toll road project, including conceptual design to a degree adequate to determine what was to be built.

Granada Hills Medical Center, Granada Hill, California.

VHS prepared construction cost estimates for the reconstruction of a 6 story medical office building that had collapsed in the 1994 Northridge (the greater Los Angeles area) earthquake.

Drum Aferbay Reservoir, PG&E Drum-Spaulding Project, Alta, California.

As the result of winter storms, heavy siltation collected in the reservoir. Insurance adjusters needed an estimate of how much silt had to be removed and the related costs of the removal.

Penstock Reconstruction Caribou Hydro-Electric Project, Belden, California.

VHS monitored the planning, reconstruction and repair of the penstocks. Landslides destroyed one penstock and buried the adjacent powerhouse.
